The Bierzo wine region is situated in the province of León and covers an area of 4,100 hectares. The Bierzo wine region consists of 45 vineyards (Bodegas), which produce 150,000 hl of wine annually. Mencia, has been in Spain for hundreds of years and was nearly a forgotten grape. In the seventies, some pioneering wine makers decided to invest in the Bierzo region where the grape is grown and bring it back to dominate as the choice for winemaking in the region. Mencia is best described as having black-blue berries with thick skins that can produce deep coloured, full-bodied wines with notable tannins. Teh Cabernet Sauvignon gives it the required fruitiness the Tempranillo its Spanish character. Beautiful robust wine.
