Producer: Tasca d'Almerita
Nero d'Avola used to be known as the "ugly duckling" among grape varieties, but has now turned into a beautiful swan (Cygnus in Latin), hence the name of this wine from Tasca d'Almerita. This transformation is in large part due to the work at the Tasca d'Almerita estate. One of only two wineries in Sicily after the second world war, it has since gone from strength to strength based on both native varieties such as the Nero d'Avola but also introducing international such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is a blend of 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels has given the wine extra complexity while the extraordinary quality of the fruit is still very evident. The wine almost leaps out of the glass at you with lovely blackcurrant aromas and hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate the wine is soft and fruity, with abundant tannins and a long finish. A powerful wine to be enjoyed with rich stews or roast meat.
