Producer: Haut Médoc 3th Growth
The first of the classified chateaux that you meet on the way North of Bordeaux on the famous D2 road, Chateau La Lagune has seen significant investment in recent years after being taken over by the Frey family. A completely new winery has been installed to the obvious delight of cellar master Jerome Juhe whom we had the good fortune to be shown around by on a recent visit. The wines of La Lagune are characterised by elegance and balance combined with freshness, harmony and a touch of femininity which gives the wine true personality. Caroline Frey who is the oenologist is committed to continuing this tradition and preserving the style of the wines and allowing the true expression of the terroir to speak out. 2001 is a great example of this style, a very elegant wine but also very smooth and already very pleasant to drink though still with good ageing potential. The palate is rich and complex combining the primary fruit aromas of black cherries with cedar notes and floral characteristics.
