Modello Rosso delle Venezie 2009

For wines of "unwavering professionality and personality" (Nick Belfrage writing on Italian wines) you will find Paolo Masi's hard to beat. The history of Masi is the history of its vineyards. Its name derives from "Vaio dei Masi" (little valley of the Masi in the valley of the Negrar, in the Valpolicella classico zone ) purchased by the current owners at the end of the 18th century. This Modello Rosso is no exception. It is a lively blend of the mainly Corvina grapes supported by Raboso grapes and others local varieties. Each variety was harvested at optimum ripeness and vinified separately. After blending, the wine was matured in a combination of large Slovenian and small French oak barrels for 6 to 10 months to marry the flavours and texture. This is an unorthodox blend that works brilliantly and can be enjoyed on its own or with typical Italian food.
