Producer: Prince of Denmark
The family firm of Georges Vigouroux is one of the principal wine producers and merchants in Cahors and is part of the leading group of producers les Seigneurs de Cahors. The wines of Cahors have undergone a transformation in recent years and while still being based on the Malbec grape (or Auxerrois as it is known locally) the wines are now less tannic and more fruit driven while still retaining their powerful character. The Chateau de Caïx owned by Prince Henrik of Denmark and is one of the most prestigious estates in Cahors and a good example of a “classic” Cahors wine - a robust wine made of 85% Malbec, 10% Merlot and 5% Tannat that is a perfect accompaniment for serious food and all kinds of cheeses. Best if decanted a few hours in advance.
